2004/05 Network Projects:
LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS:
Leadership Programs have been hugely popular and successful. A Network school is linked with a sport and a select group of students are trained to be leaders in that sport. They learn skills in the sport, group management, communication and how to plan and organise a sporting event.
Some of the Leadership Programs that have run are:
2005
Larrakeyah Primary School and Football (Soccer)
Larrakeyah Primary School and Cheerleading
Casuarina Street Primary School - Generic Program
Humpty Doo Primary School and Football (Soccer)
Braitling Primary School - Generic Program
Larrakeyah Primary School Leadership Program - Football (Soccer)
This Program involved 27 students from Years 6 and 7 who were specifically chosen for the leadership qualities they displayed and the roles they undertook within the school in Captaincy and Student Representative Committee roles. The students participated in a 2-day program which involved the football development officer and the NT Disability Education Program Coordinator, the NT Ethics Coordinator and the NT Junior Sport Coordinator. The students learnt about safety considerations inthe planning of competitions, hydration, how to include all people in activities, group management skills and how to plan a competition draw. They also learnt about aspects of football, including warm up games, skill development, football games and they planned and ran a session for 2 classes at Larrakeyah Primary School at the completion of the program.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
There are various professional development opportunities offered for teachers of member schools.
Visit the PlaySport web site to learn about fun games for kids.
2005
Play Practice –2 hour sessions run by Wendy Piltz, University Lecturer from Uni SA and an international speaker on Play Practice. Play Practice, sometimes also known as 'Games Sense' is the technique of teaching sport skills and rules through games, rather than through separate skills sessions.
NETWORK MEETINGS
Network meetings are held during the year, usually once a semester. This gives the teachers from member schools the chance to meet, discuss and learn from each other. Sport Development Officers often attend the meetings, enabling them to promote their programs and for teachers to meet them. Other issues such as professional development are also discussed.
